What a world we live in!

My job in customer service exposes me to every kind of personality you can imagine.  Recently I had “one of those days!”  It seems that on this particular day…i couldn’t say the right things.  Or maybe it was just that the customers chose not to listen!  It started off with a phone call from a gentleman asking if we had ice cream cakes.  The answer was yes and together we figured out what flavor to order.  I then proceeded to ask him what COLOR icing he would like the writting on the cake to be?  He replied, “chocolate”.  What part of what COLOR did he not understand?  So I explained to him we didn’t have flavors for the writting and asked if he preferred a specific color for the writting…he replied,” yes…chocolate.”  You can only imagine my frustration.  It took two more explanations for him to “understand” and finally replied…”it doesn’t matter, whatever color you want.”  When I hung up the phone, I was in a state of disbelief.  I was second quessing myself that I had explained it wrong. Why did I feel bad?  It was the customer that chose not to listen.  I find that to be the case on a daily basis.  Why is that?  Why do people get upset over things when they are the ones to blame?  Why is it our fault and not theirs?  What a world we live in!
